this is a 3 part series, but you do not need to enroll in all three classes. They are separate.
In this class you will learn:
Cutting Basics
- How to use a mat and rotary cutter
- Why you don't use the measurements on the mat
- How to properly hold the rotary cutter.
- Why your cutting may not be straight.
Getting to know your machine:
- Describe the different parts of the machine and what they do.
- How to thread the machine and why it's important to do it correctly.
- How to fill a bobbin and load it into your machine.
- What the measurements on the throat plate mean.
- How to lift and lower the feed dogs. What are feed dogs? What do they do?
- Learn about the special feet for your machine.
- What is a seam and how to determine if you're using a 1/4" seam.
How to sew a straight line:
- Learn how to guide a piece of fabric to get a straight line.
- And...learn how NOT to feed your fabric.
Please bring basic sewing supplies with you, including:
Sewing machine in good working order with the manual
Rotary cutter
Cutting mat
Ruler, preferably 6 1/2" x 24"
Fine, sharp pins
Seam Ripper
All supplies, except the machine are available in the shop for sale.
Please bring drinks and snacks if you wish. We have a small refrigerator for your use.
